Collecting the knowledge and tools you need to conduct rigorous science with latent class models

Models

Latent class modeling refers to a group of techniques for identifying unobservable, or latent, subgroups within a population. Learn about latent class analysis (LCA), latent profile analysis (LPA), latent transition analysis (LTA), and more.

Code Repository

The LCAKB’s Code Repository is designed to be a “one-stop shop” to download sample code for latent class models. If you need help programming your models in LatentGOLD, Mplus, R, SAS, or Stata, see if we have something to help!

Software

The Penn State Methodology Center created a number of software tools for fitting latent class models over the years, including PROC LCA and PROC LTA for SAS. These tools are now available for download as part of the LCAKB.

Resources

Need didactic resources to help you get started with latent class modeling? The LCAKB provides a self-paced learning path, resources for instructors, podcasts, videos, recommending reading lists, and more.

Latent Class and Latent Transition Analysis

We host a variety of helpful, supplemental information for the book, Latent class and latent transition analysis: With applications in the social, behavioral, and health sciences. This information may be particularly helpful as you begin to apply latent class and latent transition analysis (LCA and LTA) in your research.
